About the Swedish language:

Swedish is the official language of Sweden and is spoken by the majority of Swedish nationals as well as being one of the official languages of Finland. It belongs to a North Germanic group of languages and is spoken by around 10 million people. The main influences on the Swedish language come from Latin, German and Danish. Swedish language can be divided into 6 dialects, each spoken in different areas of Sweden; however standard Swedish is mainly used in Sweden and is derived from the dialects spoken in the capital region of Sweden.

The vocabulary used in the Swedish language is mainly Germanic and many of its uses can be seen in everyday words. Similarly to English alphabet, the Swedish alphabet consists of 29 letters, including ‘å’, ‘ä’ and ‘ö’. The Swedish culture is very different to that of British. Swedes tend to be more reserved and do everything in ‘moderation’. Therefore when doing business with Swedes it is important to act in a manner that is formal and respective until allowed by your Swedish counterparts to become more relaxed.
