Localisation/localization
Localisation, or localization, is the process of adjusting a document or website to the cultural differences within distinct markets. Localisation involves not just modifying the language, but also all the other elements of a document, including symbols, colours, images and layout. It is a way of ensuring the cultural implications of your document generate the same positive reaction in any target market.
An example of localisation would be changing an American English document to British English (e.g. changing the word “soccer” to “football” and so on). In this case, if the document is going for a patriotic look with red, white and blue, then you wouldn’t need to change the colour scheme. However, you might need to change $ signs to £ signs, and change the “zip code” field on the address form to “postcode”.
