Erasmus – not just a historical figure, but also a wonderful experience!

Have you ever thought about spending some time in Europe during your degree? If so, consider the advantages of the Erasmus programme, offered by the EU to all its citizens. It allows you to spend from 3 to 12 months in a foreign university which has a partnership with your own, as well giving you an unforgettable experience, which will stay with you forever!

I know that this is always very useful for people learning languages, translation or interpreting, but someone whose degree is law, biology or engineering might argue that it is not useful for them, and it is just a waste of a semester or a year. Wrong! You go to a different university in a different country to experience DIFFERENCES: from lectures to language, from food to friends. However, you will find several students who are Erasmus students like you, and this will help you both to overcome the problems and stress of the first weeks and to make friends.

In addition, the Erasmus programme is a sort of sheltered way to experience what it means living abroad. In fact, you have a supervisor at home and one in your host university. If you plan to continue your education or start a career abroad, the Erasmus scheme is a great way to assess (and overcome) your weaknesses abroad, such as home sickness, food issues, different lifestyle, weather, and so on.

If you have never heard of Erasmus, you can gather some general information here, although each university has its own application rules and partner institutions. Have you ever gone abroad as part of the Erasmus programme? If so, please let us know where and what you gained from the experience!
