About the Brazilian Portuguese Portuguese language:
Brazilian Portuguese, in Spanish- ‘português brasileiro’, is part of a dialect in the Portuguese language and is spoken by around 190 million of Brazil’s population. There are however some areas outside Brazil in which this type of dialogue is also spoken because of the larger number of Brazilian emigrants. These include the United States, Paraguay, Japan, Portugal and Canada. The difference between the Portuguese spoken in Brazil and that spoken in Portugal is minute and can be compared to the difference between British English and American English.

Only 1% of the words are different and most grammar rules remain the same, there are however orthographic changes in spelling of some words. One example is the word for ‘action’ which is spelt ‘ação’ in Brazilian Portuguese and ‘acção’ in European Portuguese. Similarly to Latin American Spanish, in Brazilian Portuguese there are also many words that are borrowed from the English language, especially words that are related to technology. There is also a frequent use of circumflex accent ‘^’ instead of an acute accent ‘´’ and upper case letter is used to write the days of the week and the months of the year in European Portuguese, but lower case letters are used in Brazilian Portuguese. Nevertheless the biggest difference between the two is the pronunciation.
