Basque translation – a language overview
Basque is a language isolate and the ancestral language of the Basque people, inhabitants of the Basque Country, a region which covers an area of Northeastern Spain and Southwestern France.
It is believed that over 600,000 native Basque speakers live within Spain, whereas up to 100,000 (as per estimates) live in France.
The language uses its own alphabet, based on Latin, which consists of 27 letters.
In Basque, the name of the language is officially Euskara, whilst in Spain it is commonly called the similar name, el euskera.
